Preparing your business for the holiday rush

The holidays bring parties, photos, family gatherings, and gift-giving, and they bring a wave of clients to your chair, table, or treatment room. For beauty, wellness, and medical professionals running their own businesses, it’s the busiest stretch of the year and one of the best opportunities to grow.

A little preparation now can make the difference between surviving the rush and thriving in it. Here are five areas to focus on.

1. Get Your Calendar and Communication in Order

Your most loyal clients are already thinking about holiday appointments, so don’t wait for them to ask. Start with your schedule, then make sure everyone knows how it works.

  • Release your holiday availability early, including any extended hours or weekend slots.
  • Pre-book your regulars before and after the peak weeks so they aren’t scrambling in mid-December.
  • Block time for yourself. Burnout is real, and protecting a few days off keeps you at your best when it counts.
  • Tell clients what to expect: your holiday hours, days you’re closed, your cancellation and rescheduling policy, and how far in advance to book for key dates.

A quick message, post, or email a few weeks out prevents stress on both sides.

2. Prepare Your Suite and Your Supplies

Nothing derails a busy day like running out of a key product or working in a space that feels chaotic. Get both ready now.

  • Take inventory and order early. Holiday demand can slow shipping and tighten availability, so check your retail best-sellers, treatment and service supplies, towels, linens, disposables, and any gift sets or seasonal items you plan to offer.
  • Refresh your space. Add subtle seasonal décor, deep clean and reorganize your workstation, and update your service menu and pricing displays.

Your suite is part of the experience. A few small touches can make it feel festive and welcoming without a major overhaul.

3. Make It Easy for Clients to Give, Buy, and Book

The holidays are a gifting season, so give clients simple ways to spend with you and bring in new faces.

  • Promote gift cards on your social media and booking page, display them in your suite, and mention them at checkout: “Know someone who’d love an appointment with me?”
  • Create a simple seasonal offer, such as a holiday add-on service, a referral bonus for clients who bring a friend, or a “book your January appointment now” incentive.

Keep it clear, keep it simple, and make sure every offer fits your pricing and your goals.

4. Show Up Online Where Clients Are Searching

Holiday searches spike every year. Make sure clients can find you and see what you offer.

  • Update your Google Business Profile with holiday hours.
  • Post fresh photos of your work and your suite.
  • Share behind-the-scenes moments on Instagram, like new seasonal services, gift card displays, or a glimpse of your prep.
  • Promote your offers and availability across your booking page, social channels, and email so clients know it’s time to book.

5. Plan for Life After the Rush

The rush doesn’t end on December 31. The new clients you meet this season can become your regulars in the new year.

Keep your January calendar open for the clients you just met.

Hand out rebooking cards at every appointment.

Collect contact info so you can stay in touch.

Follow up with a thank-you message after each visit.
